Easter Brunch Place Cards
Last year I hosted family Easter brunch at my house. As it was my first shot at hosting a family holiday event, which I think is some sort of rite of passage into adulthood, I decided to go all out with place cards and everything. I spent weeks beforehand browsing the local Homegoods and Target to put together the table. Luckily, light blue and gold seemed to be universally popular so gathering up matching pieces wasn’t too hard. And since spring never makes it to Michigan by Easter, I wanted to bring spring indoors with lots of fresh flowers.
How to Make the Place Cards
My favorite part of the table was the place cards. They checked some of the iconic Easter boxes (nests, eggs, flowers) and went perfectly with the rest of the table. To make the place cards I started by hollowing out the eggs to get egg shell halves. You could crack the eggs normally and try to get a good half but, as much as I love to bake, neatly cracking eggs isn’t my strong suit so I went with a different method. Using a push pin, I gently punched a hole in each end of the egg. Once the hole is made you can use the pin to chip away some shell to make it larger. I then blew in one hole to push the insides of the egg out the other. Once the egg was empty, starting at the hole at the top, I carefully broke off pieces of the shell until I got an egg shell half shape that I liked. Once the shells were all finished I washed them all out and let them dry.
To complete the place cards I got the mini nests/wreaths, some small decorative tags, and a gold pen (that I love and now use for everything) at Joann’s. I filled the shells with filler flowers and leaves left over from the bouquets that I made for the table and nestled a name tag in the flowers.
